Whynter ARC-122DS EliteThe Whynter ARC-122DS Elite is one of the newer dual hose model portable air conditioners released by Whynter last year. This new and improved model has quite a few advantages when compared to previous versions such as the Whynter ARC-14SH and the Whynter ARC-12SD. A few noticeable advantages include; a smaller and more compact machine along with quieter / less noisy cooling.

The ARC-122DS Elite includes three operational modes including a fan, dehumidifier and of course an AC (four if you purchase the ARC-122DHP with heater). It comes equipped with its patented continuous and manual auto drain technology along with a remote control, wheels a timer and other programmable features.

What is it?

This new model is actually a more efficient and eco-friendly version than it’s predecessors with an EER (energy efficiency ratio) of 12. *(ARC-12S has an EER of 11.2 and the ARC-12SD a 10.9). We previously thought that the ARC-14S was one of the most efficient portable air conditioners on the market, although this model is definitely up there.

As per the manufacturer the 122DS Elite can cool rooms up to 400 square feet and is ideal for server rooms, offices, homes, apartments and even in your bedroom (<52 dBA). Most dual hose units are quite noisy and difficult to place in your room overnight especially if you’re a light sleeper. Not only that, but their size also makes it difficult to find a suitable location for it to be stored.

Additionally this machine uses CFC-Free GREEN R-410A refrigerant and lead-free RoHS compliant components. It can also be used as a single hose unit for whatever reason you may need to do so.

What I liked?

As usual we are pretty lazy so having the option to use the upper drain port for continuous draining on the 122DS Elite is so key for us when we operate our unit. If you’re not a fan of having to manually drain your machine, then this is an excellent option to have.

Besides drainage, I do have to admit that the noise level on this machine when compared to other models is much lower in comparison. If you purchased a new dual hose machine in the past and complained about it’s noise level, then you may want to seriously consider looking into this model. I’m the type of person who hates being hot when they sleep, so this is a great machine to put in my room to resolve that.

Size is another positive factor about this machine that I cannot forget to mention. Most dual hose units are fairly large although this machine is a reasonable size for its cooling capability. So reasonable that it compares to the size of some single hose units that are available on the market.

What I didn’t like

To be completely honest there wasn’t much that we didn’t like about this machine. If you’re a first-time Whynter product user, then you may find it a little bit difficult when installing your window kit and air conditioner. Although, once you’re past that hurdle it should be fairly straightforward when you refer to the user manual.

Overall Thoughts

In the end, we really enjoyed using this newer model from Whynter. It has been quite some time since we have purchased anything from them for review and in terms of performance we were surprised at its cooling ability at such a low volume level.

It almost seems as though Whynter made an attempt to create a dual hose machine that could pass as a single hose in terms of size and noise output.
